Facilities directors with the San Ramon Valley Unified School District (SRVUSD), representatives from Contra Costa County Special Districts, and Stone Valley PTA volunteers dedicated a newly resurfaced eight-lane all-weather polyurethane running track and a perimeter fitness circuit on Saturday evening at Stone Valley Middle School at 3001 Miranda Avenue in Alamo. Shared through a joint-use agreement between the school district and Contra Costa County Service Area R-7A, the Miranda Avenue athletic complex serves 650 middle school physical education students on weekdays and hundreds of Alamo joggers, senior walkers, and youth track clubs on evenings and weekends.

Replacing an aging asphalt oval that had developed root cracks and winter puddles, athletic surfacing contractors milled the sub-base, installed a continuous perimeter slot-drain channel, and poured a 13-millimeter permeable two-layer EPDM rubberized polyurethane surface in terracotta red. The shock-absorbing surface provides 38 percent vertical force reduction, protecting growing adolescent joints as well as older neighborhood walkers from shin splints and knee strain.

Along the outer northern curve overlooking Mount Diablo, crews installed six stainless-steel outdoor calisthenics stations—including multi-height pull-up bars, parallel dip rails, incline sit-up benches, and balance beams—over poured-in-place rubber safety surfacing. Twenty low-glare 36-inch solar LED pathway bollards illuminate the community pedestrian gate from Miranda Avenue until 8:30 PM without casting light into neighboring backyards.

The $490,000 joint-use track modernization was funded through SRVUSD Measure Q facilities bond funds and a $90,000 Alamo Parks and Recreation CSA R-7A contribution. Community members can review public joint-use track hours on the Stone Valley Middle School Campus Portal.
