Park maintenance crews prepare new poured-in-place rubberized safety surfacing around the playground structure at Hemme Station Park in Alamo.

Families visiting Hemme Station Park along Danville Boulevard in Alamo will see temporary fencing around the children's play area starting Monday, October 26, 2026, as Contra Costa County Public Works launches a scheduled playground safety resurfacing project. County park maintenance supervisors announced that the play structure will remain closed through Monday, November 2, 2026, while crews strip worn impact zones and pour fresh rubberized safety cushioning before winter rains arrive.

Located near the intersection of Danville Boulevard and Hemme Avenue adjacent to the Iron Horse Regional Trail corridor, Hemme Station Park serves as a central pocket park and gathering space for unincorporated Alamo families, cyclists, and joggers. During the eight-day maintenance window, specialized surfacing contractors will repair sub-base wear areas beneath high-traffic slides and climbers, apply multi-layer ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM) rubber granules, and allow the polyurethane binder to cure fully at dry autumn temperatures.

Project funding is provided through County Service Area R-7A, the dedicated Alamo park and recreation assessment district overseen in coordination with the Alamo Municipal Advisory Council (MAC) and the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors. County engineers emphasized that completing the poured-in-place elastomeric seal before November storm fronts prevents moisture intrusion that can cause surface blistering and trip hazards during winter freezes.

While the fenced playground equipment and rubberized apron will remain strictly off-limits during the curing period to prevent footprints or structural damage, the surrounding turf lawn, park benches, and adjacent Iron Horse Regional Trail pathways in Alamo will stay open to pedestrians. Residents with questions about the construction schedule can contact Contra Costa County Public Works Special Districts at (925) 313-2000 or check updates at contracosta.ca.gov.
