Park maintenance specialists with Contra Costa County Public Works Special Districts and members of the Alamo Municipal Advisory Council (MAC) reopened the renovated three-court bocce complex and shaded picnic pavilion at Livorna Park at 2000 Livorna Road on Saturday afternoon. Nestled at the eastern edge of Alamo near the Livorna Road entrance to Mount Diablo State Park, the four-acre neighborhood park serves as a year-round gathering hub for inter-neighborhood bocce leagues, Alamo Elementary families, and weekend foothills hikers.

Over a four-week autumn court reconstruction, crews stripped away compacted clay and winter moss from the three 60-foot-by-12-foot bocce lanes, installed subsurface geotextile drainage fabric over four inches of open-graded crushed bluestone, and laser-leveled a fresh topdressing of screened San Francisco Bay crushed oyster shell and decomposed granite. Pressure-treated mahogany perimeter bumpers and rubberized end-board backstops were also replaced to deliver true, tournament-grade ball rebound across all three courts.

Above the courtside scoring arbors and adjacent children's play structure, structural ironworkers erected four cantilevered steel columns supporting high-density polyethylene architectural shade sails that block 96 percent of ultraviolet radiation while withstanding 75-mph foothill wind gusts. New wheelchair-accessible cedar picnic tables, locking equipment chests for loaner bocce sets, and a chilled bottle-filling station complete the plaza upgrade.

The $142,000 park improvement was funded through County Service Area R-7A (Alamo Parks and Recreation) capital reserves reviewed by the Alamo MAC and county park staff. Alamo residents and local families can reserve the bocce courts for neighborhood tournaments or view autumn movie-in-the-park dates on the Alamo Parks and Recreation Official Portal.
