Alamo Municipal Advisory Council Endorses Expanded Equestrian and Pedestrian Trail Along Danville Boulevard
Contra Costa County supervisors consider trail widening, split-rail fencing, and heritage oak protective easements along the historic multi-use corridor.

The Alamo Municipal Advisory Council voted overwhelmingly on Tuesday evening to endorse a comprehensive trail rehabilitation plan along Danville Boulevard, forwarding formal recommendations to the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors to preserve and enhance the unincorporated community's iconic equestrian and walking corridors.
The approved corridor proposal outlines the graded reconstruction of a 1.8-mile crushed granite trail pathway extending from Stone Valley Road south toward the Danville boundary line. Designed to blend harmoniously with Alamo's semi-rural visual character, the plan features traditional two-rail split timber fencing, reflective pathway safety markers, and strict protective root easements safeguarding dozens of century-old heritage valley oak trees lining the boulevard.
County public works engineers presented civil survey findings showing that stormwater runoff and deferred maintenance over recent wet winters eroded critical trail shoulders, forcing horse riders and neighborhood joggers onto roadway asphalt. The estimated $980,000 restoration project will be funded primarily through unincorporated county park dedication fees and regional open space maintenance funds.
Local equestrian groups, trail enthusiasts, and long-time Alamo residents voiced enthusiastic support during the public forum at the Alamo Women's Club. Speakers emphasized that preserving equestrian access along Danville Boulevard honors the historical ranching heritage of the San Ramon Valley while offering safe recreational pathways separated from vehicular traffic.
The Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors is scheduled to hold a final funding hearing and award construction contracts during its morning session on Tuesday, December 8, in Martinez. Public works crews anticipate commencing grading operations in late spring 2027 following the conclusion of seasonal winter rains. Area residents can review the complete engineering drawings and submit written comments to the Alamo MAC clerk through November 20.
