The Alamo Municipal Advisory Council announced on Wednesday that extensive tree pruning, deadwood canopy thinning, and wildland fuel reduction operations will begin at Andrew H. Young Park on Friday, October 23. Situated along the central Danville Boulevard corridor near Jackson Way in Alamo, the six-acre neighborhood park features heritage valley oaks, mature coastal redwoods, and dense ornamental shade groves that require specialized maintenance ahead of the wet winter storm season. County arborists and municipal public works officials scheduled the coordinated tree care to prevent heavy limb failures and safeguard surrounding residential properties.

Contra Costa County Public Works maintenance crews and certified utility tree specialists will deploy bucket trucks, precision pole saws, and heavy-duty industrial woodchippers between 7:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. over a four-day working window. Advisory council members emphasized that the proactive clearance directly fulfills recommendations from the San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District, eliminating dangerous ladder fuels and low-hanging branches that could obstruct emergency evacuation sightlines or interfere with overhead utility lines. Field crews will also clear overgrown understory brush along the perimeter fencing bordering the Iron Horse Regional Trail junction.

Park visitors, dog walkers, and neighboring property owners should expect temporary safety barricades and rolling section closures around the children's playground turf, central picnic gazebos, and west lawn areas while tree felling and overhead limb removals are actively underway. Maintenance supervisors confirmed that all structurally sound heritage tree canopies will be meticulously preserved, with chipped organic mulch retained on-site to reinforce natural soil bioswales and control hillside erosion during seasonal atmospheric river events. Surrounding pedestrian sidewalks along Danville Boulevard will remain open with dedicated safety flaggers directing pedestrian traffic.

Alamo property owners, equestrian trail riders, and community members can inspect the comprehensive arborist evaluation ledgers, tree preservation criteria, and upcoming municipal advisory council agendas online at contracosta.ca.gov. Inquiries regarding county parks maintenance timelines and Alamo Municipal Advisory Council public hearings may be submitted to the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors District 2 office Monday through Friday at (925) 957-7880. Work is slated for full completion by Tuesday afternoon.
